Amsallem and Duha Finish 1-2, Canyons Wins Sixth Straight

SANTA MARIA —  Hugo Amsallem took medalist honor with a four-under round of 68 and Chayan Duha finished second at 69 to lead College of the Canyons past its conference counterparts for its sixth straight tourney win at Santa Maria Country Club on Monday.

Felix Schrott tied for fourth in the individual standings with an even-par round of 72, while Matty Wilson and Axel Einan both tied for seventh at 74 to give Canyons a five-man score of 357. 

Nobuhiko Wakaari finished at 79 but had his score dropped.

Canyons (357) was followed by Ventura College (369) and Santa Barbara City College (382) in the top three spots. Antelope Valley College (387) was a close fourth with Bakersfield College (391), Glendale College (397), Allan Hancock (417) and Citrus College (417) filing behind.

The Cougars improved to 50-0 on the season and 35-0 vs. Western State Conference (WSC) competition. COC, the defending state champions, has not lost an event since April 22, 2019.

Canyons continues to lead the standings and is gunning for its 11th straight WSC title with three conference events remaining on the docket.

Up next, the Cougars will compete at the non-conference Clash at the Coast event on Wednesday, March 11 at Torrey Pines in La Jolla.

WSC action is scheduled to resume on Monday, March 16 at Antelope Valley Country Club.
