College of the Canyons pushed its unbeaten streak to three games after playing to a 1-1 home draw vs. Citrus College on Friday.
Canyons (2-10-3, 1-2-2) had previously picked up a 2-0 road victory at Bakersfield College on Oct. 29, then recorded a 1-1 draw vs Antelope Valley College on Wednesday before Friday's home tilt vs. Citrus.
COC sophomore goalkeeper Kian Bensend recorded eight saves to in the match in what was perhaps in best game in net this season.
Bensend allowed a lone goal to Citrus (1-11-5, 1-1-3) midfielder Carlos Guevara in the 21st minute, but was steady the rest of the way, coming up with several key stops down the stretch.
Canyons evened things up in the 25th minute when freshman forward Dylan Sullivan got behind the Owls' goalkeeper and booted an empty-net goal to tie the game at 1-1.
Despite several scoring chances from both teams the match would see no further goals, eventually ending in a draw.
The Cougars recorded six shots in the game, compared to 10 by the Owls. COC earned four corner kicks, while Citrus had two in the match.
Citrus goalkeeper Thomas Garcia made three saves in the game.
COC will host conference opponent Glendale College (10-6-3, 2-1-2) on its home pitch at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars will then head to Antelope Valley College on Nov. 12, before the regular season finale vs. Bakersfield on Nov. 15.
Canyons currently sits fifth in the Western State Conference (WSC), South Division, but is only three points behind Glendale in the top spot. A win vs. the Vaqueros on Tuesday would catapult the Cougars to the top of the conference standings.
