No. 3 College of the Canyons was eliminated from the 2016 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Playoffs after being upset 1-0 by No. 14 Santa Barbara City College on Saturday, Nov. 19, at the new COC soccer facility.
Canyons (12-4-4, 6-0-2) continued its late season offensive drought by failing to score for the third time in the last four games.
Instead, SBCC (13-6-1, 6-3-1) took the lead in the 32nd minute of play when Sarah Vail redirected a ball sent in by Chloe Montao which lifted just over the outstretched arm of COC goalkeeper Kianna Hemphill.
The goal marred an otherwise strong night in net for Hemphill (14-4-3) who registered eight saves in the contest.
Canyons had its chances vs. the Vaqueros, but could not find the back of the net despite outshooting SBCC 17-10.
