Victoria Jamison & Gage Fritz Named Jersey Mike’s Student-Athletes of the Week

College of the Canyons student-athletes Victoria Jamison (women's cross country) and Gage Fritz (men's soccer) have been named the Jersey Mike's COC Athletic Department's Women's & Men's Student-Athletes of the Week for the period running Sept. 2-7. Jamison and Fritz are the second set of honorees for the fall 2024 semester.

Jamison was the top runner for a Canyons team that placed third at the 'Crush Invitational' held at Woodward Park in Fresno on Sept. 6.

Running in just her second collegiate race, the freshman out of Saugus High School clocked a time of 19:16 on the 5K course to finish fourth in the individual standings. That result helped Canyons slot third in the team standings.

The event, which served as a preview for the 3C2A state championship meet later this fall, attracted a field of more than 140 runners representing 15 schools from across the state.

Jamison has now finished top-four in both of COC's events this season, having placed runner-up at the San Diego Cross Country Kickoff to begin the 2024 campaign.

Gage Fritz / Men's Soccer

Fritz netted his first goal of the season, which proved to be the game winner, during the Cougars' 2024 home opener vs. Lemoore College on Sept. 6. 

The Saugus High School alum was able to beat the Lemoore goalkeeper, off an assist by Cristopher Chavez, during first half stoppage time to give Canyons a 2-1 advantage heading into halftime.

Despite an active second half from both sides that score held true, with COC (1-2-1) able to claim its first victory of the season.
