Baylee Renfro & Anthony Nilson Named Jersey Mike’s Student-Athletes of the Week

College of the Canyons student-athletes Baylee Renfro (women's tennis) and Anthony Nilson (men's golf) have been named the Jersey Mike's COC Athletic Department's Women's & Men's Student-Athletes of the Week for the period running Jan. 26 to Feb. 1. Renfro and Nilson are the third set of honorees for the 2025 winter/spring session.

Renfro helped Canyons to a pair of points during the Cougars home opener loss to College of the Sequoias on Jan. 31.

The Valencia High School graduate opened the match by teaming with Estrella Segura for an 8-2 doubles victory from the No. 1 position, giving COC an early advantage. The win was the first of the season for the combination of Segura/Renfro (1-2). 

Later it was Renfro again, this time winning in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) to pick up her first singles victory of the year from the No. 2 position. Renfro currently holds a 1-2 singles record.

Despite those efforts Canyons fell to Sequoias by a 6-3 final score in what was the final non-conference match prior to starting Western State Conference play.

Anthony Nilson / Men's Golf

Nilson was the top scorer in the Canyons clubhouse, helping the Cougars to a dominating victory at the season-opening Pt. Conception Invitational played at La Purisima Golf Course Jan. 26-27.

The freshman from Simi Valley High School fired a two-day score of 153 (78/75) to place third in the field of 86 players representing 13 schools from across the state.

His opening-round score of 78 helped Canyons to a six-stroke lead on second place College of the Desert. 

The following day, Nilson fired off a three-over-par round of 75 to provide some fire power to a Cougars squad that won that event by 28 strokes over conference rival Ventura College.
