College of the Canyons student-athletes Brianna Nodine (women's track & field) and Andrew Sherrell (baseball) have been named the Jersey Mike's COC Athletic Department's Women's & Men's Student-Athletes of the Week for the period running March 17-22. Fulling and Sherrell are the 10th set of honorees for the 2025 winter/spring session.
Brianna Nodine / Women's Track & Field
Nodine won a pair of events, and finished runner-up in a third, while also establishing a new personal record in the triple jump event during the Western State Conference (WSC) Inland Meet hosted at Cougar Stadium on March 21.
The freshman out of Saugus High School made her mark in the field events by first winning the long jump at a distance of 4.88m/16' 0.25". She later took first in the triple jump at 9.98m/32' 9", which was a new PR.
Nodine also finished second in the high jump after clearing a mark of 1.40m/4' 7" to round out her day.
Those performances helped COC's women's team win the meet by 115 points over runner-up Santa Monica College.
Andrew Sherrell / Baseball
Sherrell continued to swing a hot bat during the Cougars' three-game stand at the annual Spring Classic Tournament hosted by Allan Hancock College March 19-21.
The sophomore third baseman, who prepped at Taft Union High School, got things started in a big way by going 5-for-7 with a home run, three runs and four RBIs during the Cougars' 25-7 victory over Merced College in the tourney opener.
The following day, Sherrell logged another hit, alongside two walks and an RBI in a 3-1 loss to El Camino College. In the finale, Sherrell finished 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, two runs and three RBIs to help Canyons pick up a 12-7 come-from-behind victory over East L.A. College.
Sherrell finished the tournament a combined 8-for-12 with four walks, two extra-base hits, five runs and eight RBIs. That performance extended his hit streak to seven games, while also moving his RBI streak to six contests. On the season he is batting .302 with six home runs, 25 RBIs and 16 runs.
