Sahya Kitabatake and Josue Lopez Named Jersey Mike’s Student-Athletes of the Week

College of the Canyons student-athletes Sahya Kitabatake (women's golf) and Josue Lopez (men's cross country) have been named the Jersey Mike's COC Athletic Department's Women's & Men's Student-Athletes of the Week for the period running Sept. 22-27. Kitabatake and Lopez are the fifth set of honorees for the 2025 fall semester.

Kitabatake earned medalist honors with a one-over-par round of 73 at the Western State Conference (WSC) tournament played at Rancho Vista Golf Course on Sept. 22.
The sophomore from Kobe, Japan has now earned medalist honors in four straight conference events to begin the season. Kitabatake has also medaled in 10 of 12 WSC events dating back to the start of the 2024 season.
Her performance helped College of the Canyons (24-0) remain undefeated on the season by finishing first in the field of seven competing programs.
Josue Lopez / Men's Cross Country
Lopez had a standout performance in leading the Cougars to a team victory at the annual Tri-State Meet hosted by the College of Southern Nevada on Sept. 26.
The Hart High School alum finished second in the field of 66 runners with a time of 25:52.9 on the 8K course at Floyd Lamb Park in Las Vegas.
The event, which attracted runners from California, Nevada and Arizona, was the first out-of-state meet in Canyons program history.
The team victory was the first of the season for Canyons.
