No. 6 Canyons Set to Kickoff vs. Santa Ana on Saturday
All players and coaches associated with a Santa Clarita Valley sports league are invited to attend Saturday's game FREE.
The No. 6 College of the Canyons football team will face off against Santa Ana College at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Cougar Stadium.
The game will also be broadcast live on KHTS AM 1220. Listeners can access the live audio by clicking the 'Listen Live' located on the COC football home page, here, or by visiting www.hometownstation.com and clicking 'Listen Live.'
The Cougars (2-0) enter the game having posted back-to-back wins to open the season for the first time since the 2008 campaign.
That year Canyons finished the season 12-1, with a loss to Mt. SAC in the Southern California Championship game.
COC entered the 2015 season unranked, but has quickly garnered statewide and national attention.
The Cougars are currently the No. 6 team in the state, up two spots from the previous week, according to the most recent Junior College Athletic Bureau statewide coaches poll, released Sept. 14.
COC is also ranked as the No. 13 team in the nation, according to the JCGridiron.com "Dirty Thirty" Junior College Team Rankings that the website released the same day. Likewise, the website JCfootball.com also has Canyons as the nation's No. 13 team.
Those positions are the result of a big 30-6 week one win over No. 1 ranked Mt. SAC and a strong follow up effort in week two that saw the Cougars rally from an early deficit to handle Citrus College 33-20.
Santa Ana (1-1) will make its first visit to Cougar Stadium since the 2002 season. However, these two programs also met in 2014 with Canyons able to put together a convincing 31-10 road victory against the Dons.
The all-time series between the two programs is currently knotted at 2-2. Santa Ana's most recent win over the Cougars came in a 24-21 home victory during the 2012 Southern California Bowl.
Last weekend, the Dons defeated L.A. Harbor 39-28 to earn their first win of the season. Santa Ana lost its season opener 67-21 at Allan Hancock.
