On Thursday, the College of the Canyons Athletics Department hosted a FUNdamentals Football Camp and 'Punt, Pass, Kick' Challenge organized by Special Olympics Southern California and the Los Angeles Rams.
More than 50 Special Olympics athletes and coaches were on hand at Cougar Stadium to take part in a skills camp led a group of more than 20 COC football student-athletes and representatives from the L.A. Rams.
The camp was designed to teach participants about the fundamentals of football.
With fans looking on and music echoing through the Cougar Stadium PA system, COC football players spread out across the turf to NFL inspired clinc stations focused on passing, catching, kicking, punting, blocking, pass rushing — mixed in with a bit of end zone celebrating.
After the roughly 90 minute 'skills and drills' portion of the event a 'Punt, Pass, Kick' contest was held, with the top five contestants from Thursday's contest selected to compete on the field at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum before the Rams home game vs. Philadelphia Eagles on Dec. 10.
