WATCH LIVE: No. 9 Canyons vs. Antelope Valley College - 2021 Season Opener

College of the Canyons will play its 2021 season opener on Saturday, Sept. 4, as the Cougars host Antelope Valley College at Cougar Stadium in week one.

Admission to the 2021 season opener will be free of charge.

Saturday's matchup is a Southern California Football Association (SCFA) non-conference contest. 

Canyons comes into the game after not playing in 2020 due to cancellations brought about by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. 

The Cougars concluded the 2019 season as Southern California Football Association (SCFA) National Division, Northern League co-champions. Canyons was 9-3 on the year and earned a state playoff berth, advancing to the SCFA SoCal Championship game vs. eventual state champions Riverside City College. 

Antelope Valley College finished the 2019 campaign with a 6-3 overall record to finish third in the SCFA American Division, Mountain League. 

The Marauders played a two-game home/away series with College of the Sequoias during the abbreviated spring 2020 season, winning both games. 

Canyons is currently the No. 9 ranked team in the state according to the JC Athletic Bureau Head Coaches Poll. Antelope Valley in currently unranked. 

Canyons and Antelope Valley last met during the 2017 season, with the Cougars coming away with a 42-30 road victory. 

COC leads the all-time series vs. AVC with a 14-4 advantage, having won 10 straight matchups dating back to 1999. AVC has not defeated the Cougars since 1998, the first season COC reinstated its football program.
