Cougars Move Conference Win Streak to Six, Struyf Earns Medalist Honors

PALMDALE — College of the Canyons celebrated a sixth consecutive conference victory after seeing all five players finish in the top-8 of the individual standings during the Western State Conference (WSC) event played at Rancho Vista Golf Course on Monday.
Canyons (71-2, 42-0) turned in a four-player score of 284 to easily outpace runner-up Santa Barbara City College (297) in the team standings. Citrus College (301) was third with tourney host Antelope Valley College (308) in fourth place.
For the second straight event it was COC sophomore Jacques Struyf finishing as the low man for Canyons, this time carding a four-under-par round of 68 to bring home medalist honors. The medalist award was Struyf's second of the season.
Canyons sophomore Anthony Nilson finished third overall with a one-over score of 73.
Ed Beehag finished in a tie for fourth place with an even-par round of 72. Arnaud Bouhaniche represented the Cougars' final scoring player at 73, good for a tie in the sixth-place spot.
Chad Stevenson competed in his second WSC event of the year with his round of 74 placing the freshman in a six-way tie for eighth place. Stevenson's score was scratched from the final COC team mark.
Canyons plays next at the WSC event hosted by Citrus College on Monday, April 13, at San Dimas Golf Course. Tee time is set for 11 a.m.
The Cougars will then host its home conference tourney on Monday, April 20, at Soule Park Golf Course in Ojai.
The WSC Championships are slated for Monday, April 27, at Sundale Country Club in Bakersfield.
