OJAI — College of the Canyons had its conference win streak halted after falling one stroke off the pace to Santa Barbara City College at Soule Park Golf Course on Monday.
Canyons (84-3, 55-1), the tourney host, began the day undefeated vs. Western State Conference (WSC) competition but had to settle for tourney runner-up status.
Santa Barbara (300) took first followed by Canyons (301), Ventura (304) and Antelope Valley (312) across the top four spots.
COC, the back-to-back defending 3C2A state champions, had not finished second in a WSC tournament since March 3, 2025, a span of 13 conference events.
The Cougars placed three players in the top eight of the individual standings including co-medalist Anthony Nilson. The sophomore finished at an even par 72 to tie with Hugo de Mollerat of Santa Barbara for medalist honors.
Jacques Struyf was next at 75 in a three-way tie for fifth in the field. Ed Beehag finished the day at 76 to slot into a tie for eighth place.
Kai Willen was the final scoring player with his round of 78, placing the freshman in a tie for 14th.
Arnaud Bouhaniche (79) and Chad Stevenson (81) both competed for the Cougars but had their rounds scratched from the final team score.
Canyons, still the conference leader, will next play at the WSC Championships at Sundale Country Club in Bakersfield. Action begins at 8 a.m. Monday, April 27.
