The event features a three-mile course that begins at Cougar Field and winds through the Valencia campus and surrounding hillsides, concluding inside Cougar Stadium. All races begin at 7 p.m.
Palmer won an individual Western State Conference (WSC) championship in the shot put before going on to win the CCCAA SoCal Regional Championship and finishing runner-up at the CCCAA State Championships.
COC freshman Jordan Palmer placed second in the shot put (15.20m) and sophomore Delon Buncio finished fourth in the javelin (52.30m).
The Cougars track & field program will send three student-athletes to compete at the CCCAA Track & Field State Championships May 17-18 in San Mateo.
COC freshman Jordan Palmer Palmer recorded a 16.02m (52’ 6.75”) to win the event and will enter the CCCAA State Championships meet with the No. 2 ranked throw in California.
COC freshman Jacore Johnson brought home dual WSC titles in the 200m (21.752) and 400m (48.79) and also ran anchor on the conference champion 4x400m relay team (3:20.54).
COC's mens team will enter the WSC Championships trailing West L.A. College by 13 event points.
COC student-athletes Jacob Johnson, Jordan Palmer and Delon Buncio were part of small group that competed at the UCLA Rafer Johnson /Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational at Drake Stadium on Saturday.
COC's men's team wins eight events and finished runner-up in four more.
COC freshman Jordan Palmer's toss of 14.98m (49’ 1.75”) won the shot put event and is the top mark recorded by a CCCAA SoCal Region athlete.
Canyons won a combined nine events and finished runner-up in six more to post another strong showing.
COC sophomore Delon Buncio finished second in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.81m (22' 4.25").
Canyons won the men's 4 x 100 relay, 1500m and shot put events, also placed runner-up in the 100m, 400h and 3K steeplechase events.
