Artiga Earns All-WSC First-Team Honors

College of the Canyons guard Kathy Artiga has been named an All-Western State Conference (WSC), South Division First-Team selection following a strong freshman campaign.

Artiga led the Cougars in scoring at 11.3 points per game after drawing starts in 25 of 27 games. Her scoring output, which included 16 contests with double-digit point totals, ranked 13th in the WSC, South.

She also led the team, and ranked 17th in the state, in minutes played, averaging 34.6 each night. 

The Granada Hills Charter alum averaged 5.6 rebounds per contest to rank third on the team, while her 1.5 assists tied for the team lead. On the defensive end, Artiga averaged nearly one steal each time out.

Artiga scored a season-high 20 points and matched that with a season-best 11 rebounds in the Cougars' 54-52 home win vs. Santa Monica College on Jan. 24. Her five assists at Diablo Valley on Dec. 13, were also a season best for Artiga.

Canyons finished the regular season with an overall record of 8-20 and 3-11 mark in conference play to place sixth in the Western State Conference (WSC), South Division standings.
