Canyons Swings Another Victory, Shimoji Takes Top Spot

SAN DIMAS — College of the Canyons won its second tournament in as many weeks with freshman Motoko Shimoji again taking medalist honors to lead a Cougar squad that carded a four-player score of 347 at San Dimas Country Club on Monday. 

Shimoji has now claimed first place finishes in back-to-back weeks. Her round of 75 was two shots better than runner up Carlee Steven of Santa Barbara City College.

Flora Peugnet finished her day with a round of 91 to place seventh in the individual standings.

Carla Menendez at 89 and Brooke Maxwell at 92 slotted in the 14th and 15th place spots, respectively.

Emma Tyni (101) tied for 20th in the field of 32 players, while Ashley Cortez (107) was 27th, but neither had their scores included in the final Canyons tally.

COC won the event followed by SBCC (355) and Bakersfield (362) in the top three spots. Moorpark (395), Antelope Valley (401), Citrus (409) and Allan Hancock College (412) rounded out the final team scores.

Up next, the Cougars will compete at the Western State Conference (WSC) event hosted by Moorpark at Los Robles Greens in Thousand Oaks on Monday, Sept. 26. Tee time is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
