Sabine Yalung to Continue Career at Life Pacific University

College of the Canyons sophomore captain and All-Western State Conference (WSC), South Division honoree Sabine Yalung has committed to continue her playing career at Life Pacific University (LPU) for the 2023 season. 

LPU is a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) program located in San Dimas. The Warriors, which compete in the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC), launched their women's soccer program in 2020.

"I'm excited to play at a more competitive level," said Yalung. "I think it will be a good testament to the journey that I've gone through in soccer." 

Having started her soccer career in seventh grade, Yalung eventually made her way to COC where she earned All-WSC, South Second-Team honors as a sophomore in 2022. She was also a First-Team selection during her freshman campaign.

Primarily a defender, Yalung finished her career at Canyons with two goals and three assists across 41 career games.  

The decision to become an LPU Warrior was made easy for Yalung.

"As soon as I got there and I met the coaches and then they had me meet some of the girls and stuff, it felt so much like a family," said Yalung. "And I think that's what I had here at COC."  

Canyons women's soccer head coach Justin Lundin named Yalung as one of the captains for the 2022 season with a goal of creating a strong team culture following the program's COVID-19 layoff. 

"Attitude-wise, Sabine is everything we would want from a player," Lundin said. "She always works hard and is willing to do anything you ask of her."

Lundin went on to describe Yalung as a tremendous worker and problem solver.

"We definitely look to our captains to be people that represent the values we want to see within the team," Lundin added. "You couldn't pick a better person than Sabine."

Yalung now plans on bringing that same attitude to LPU and its growing program.
