Lady Cougars Move to 5-0 with Win over Porterville

College of the Canyons posted a 9-0 shutout victory over visiting Porterville College on Saturday, improving to 5-0 on the season.

COC head coach Patty LaBat shuffled her traditional lineup for the meeting vs. the Pirates (1-3), with the new pairings proving successful.

The victory was the third of the week for Canyons which also picked up road wins vs. Fullerton and Santa Monica College earlier in the week. The win vs. SMC represented the first Western State Conference (WSC) match of the season.

COC sophomore Una Stanisavljevic was able to bounce back with a shutout straight sets victory in the No. 1 spot after falling in her last three outings. The former All-WSC selection also helped Canyons get a point as part of the No.1 doubles duo alongside Taylor Cohen.

Likewise, the new combinations of Mary MacAdam and Jennifer Russell and Celeste Hernandez and Jaclyn Wosk also earned points in doubles competition. 

Russell was the other shutout straight sets winner for Canyons, while Cohen, MacAdam, Wosk and Astadan each cruised to wins

COC returns to conference play on Tuesday, Feb. 11 when rival Ventura College visits the Cougar Courts for a 2 p.m. match.
