College of the Canyons sophomore Sydney Tamondong has been named to the 3C2A Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Team after a successful season that saw her achieve a trio of program firsts.
Tamondong's All-American accolades come as a result of her finishing the 2024 season at No. 10 in the ITA National Singles Rankings for 3C2A players. She is the first member of the women's tennis program to earn All-American Honors since the program's establishment in 2018.
Tamondong is one of three players from the Western State Conference (WSC) to be included among the 10 selections from the 3C2A. A full list of 3C2A All-American selections is included here.
Playing from the No. 1 singles position, Tamondong helped Canyons advance to the 3C2A Southern California Regional playoffs for the second time in program history. COC finished the regular season tied for third in the WSC standings.
Individually, the Valencia High School graduate who played her freshman year at St. Francis University, posted a singles record of 14-3 during the regular season.
She also starred as a doubles player, primarily teaming with Ellie Wingo (7-4) and Estrella Segura (4-3) for a combined regular season doubles record of 11-7.
At the WSC Singles & Doubles Championships in early April, Tamondong logged three more singles victories in advancing all the way to the semifinal round. She received All-WSC Honorable Mention honors in the No. 1 singles position and also qualified to compete at the 3C2A State Championship tourney held in Ojai April 24-28.
In doubles play, Tamondong/Segura won back-to-back matches following an opening round bye. The duo was then eliminated in the semifinal round by the No. 1 seeded team from Glendale College.
Tamondong/Segura later went on to claim a doubles point for No. 5 seed Canyons in its postseason loss at No. 3 Riverside City College on April 9.
A few weeks later at the 3C2A State Singles & Doubles Championships, Tamondong/Segura achieved another program first by advancing all the way to the round of 16 at the Ojai Athletic Club.
Tamondong also earned a place in the Canyons record books after advancing all the way to the Round of 16 as a singles player, the first in program history to do so.
In all, her 2024 season included a 19-5 mark as a singles player along with a combined record of 16-9 in doubles action.
