Canyons Takes to Road for 5-4 Victory Over Ventura

VENTURA — College of the Canyons played to a 5-4 conference road win at Ventura College, bouncing back from its home loss earlier in the week.
Canyons (5-3, 4-2) has now won five of its last six matches to remain competitive in the Western State Conference (WSC) standings. The Cougars suffered a 6-3 loss to Santa Barbara City College earlier in the week.
COC took two of three doubles matches as the No. 1 duo of Emma Chodur and Baylee Renfro led the way with an 8-3 win. The new pairing of Michele Figg and Nadia Godoy-Ortega played to an 8-2 double win from the No. 2 spot.
Chodur took things a step further with a victory (6-1, 6-0) in the No. 1 singles position to remain undefeated in singles play at 8-0 to begin her freshman campaign.
Renfro followed up in the No. 2 spot with her singles win (6-0, 6-2). The victory was the sophomore's second across the last three matches.
COC sophomore Lauren Neal evened her singles record at 4-4 on the year and provided the go-ahead point with a three-set victory (2-6, 6-4, 6-4) in the No. 4 singles match.
Canyons continues conference play with a pair of road matches, first at conference-leader L.A. Mission College on March 3, then traveling to Bakersfield College on March 5.
The Cougars return home Tuesday, March 10, to host Antelope Valley College.
