CERRITOS, Calif. — Following its dramatic first round win in the Cerritos Tournament, the College of the Canyons volleyball team saw its momentum come to a halt against a formidable Cypress team, falling 3-1 (25-15, 20-25, 25-18, 25-19) in the second round of action on Saturday.
Despite the loss, COC got quality performances out of Brooke Garelick, Lauren Underwood and Serena LeDuff, who combined for 33 of the team's 54 points. Katie Rutecki was strong once again, contributing 31 assists and 10 digs.
The Cougars were ultimately undone courtesy of a standout 16.5 point performance by Cypress' Makayla Taylor, who combined with teammate Ivana Escobedo for 22 kills, 11 digs and four aces.
