No. 21 College of the Canyons took down No. 15 Santa Monica in just three sets to snap the Corsairs' eight-game undefeated streak and push its own win streak to four. Set scores were 25-16, 25-23, 25-18.
Canyons (9-7, 3-0) has not dropped a set in its last four matches, sweeping opponents L.A. Pierce, Citrus and Bakersfield before adding Santa Monica to the list on Wednesday.
Santa Monica (9-4, 2-1) responded after dropping the first set, finding momentum in the second set, but it wasn't quite enough to get the upper hand and the Cougars did not relent.
Altogether the Cougars procured 40 kills, eleven of them coming from sophomore Aly Grodell and 10 coming from freshman Kaelyn White. Grodell held the highest hitting percentage for the Cougars at .471.
A substantial number of points can be attributed to the Canyons setters, Grace Rodriguez and Jordan Nunez. Rodriguez totaled a game-high number 18 assists and Nunez was close behind with 16.
The dominate offense was backed by a strong defense. A total of 48 digs were recorded for the Cougars with sophomore Abby Sherman leading the way at 11, Nunez with 10 and Sabrina Sveiven with nine.

Upcoming Schedule
Canyons will defend its win streak on the road for the next two games. The Cougars will take on Glendale at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, before heading to West L.A. on Friday, Oct. 14 for another 6 p.m. start time
COC is back at the Cougar Cage the following week to face off against Antelope Valley College (Oct. 19) and Citrus College (Oct. 21).
