Cougars Celebrate 'Sophomore Night' with Win Over AVC, Close Out Regular Season

College of the Canyons celebrated its annual 'Sophomore Night' with a convincing 3-1 victory over Antelope Valley College on Wednesday night at the Cougar Cage. Set scores were 25-21, 19-25, 25-19, 25-21.
The victory completed the season sweep over AVC (15-8, 6-6) and secured the Cougars' position as runner-up in the Western State Conference (WSC), South Division standings behind conference champions Santa Monica College (24-4, 12-0).
COC freshman Allison Wieckowski led all players with 10 kills and continues to rank third on the team in that category.
Canyons freshman Megan Moreno was next with seven kills on 12 attacks, good for a .417 hitting clip. She also recorded a pair of blocks and two block assists at the net.
Sophomores Sofia Miranda and Madison Andrews both finished with five kills in the match, while Martina Neveleff added three.
Morgan Dumlao added 18 assists and a game-high four aces alongside 15 digs. Rylee Booth registered three aces and Miranda had two of her own.
Miranda's 13 digs were second on the squad. Addison DeGard also reached a double-digit dig total with 10.
Cougars Close Out Regular Season in WSC Crossover
Canyons officially wrapped the 2025 regular season by hosting Moorpark College (21-8, 10-2) on Friday night in the annual WSC Crossover match. The Raiders finished the regular season as runner-up in the WSC, North Division to set up its meeting with the Cougars.
Moorpark won the match 3-0 (26-24, 25-10, 25-21) as COC couldn't keep pace after an intense back-and-forth opening set.
Once again, it was Wieckowski leading the way with eight kills on a .412 hitting mark.
COC freshman Katelyn Nelson ended the night with five kills while Andrews matched that total with five of her own.
Dumlao continued to pace the offense with 17 assists and upped her season ace total to 49, with two coming against Moorpark. DeGard finished with a game-high 14 digs. Miranda finished with three kills and a pair of aces.
Canyons will now wait to learn its potential postseason fate. The Cougars will be looking to play in the 3C2A SoCal Regional playoffs for the fourth time across the last five seasons.
