Victoria Jamison Named 5CTCA SoCal Women's Runner of the Week

College of the Canyons freshman Victoria Jamison has been named the week seven California Community Colleges Cross Country and Track Coaches Association (5CTCA) women's runner of the week for the Southern California Region.

The honor comes to Jamison after her standout performance at the 3C2A Southern California Preview event hosted by Chaffey College on Oct. 4.

Jamison finished as the top freshman at the event which attracted a field of 168 qualifying runners. Her time of 19:33.7 on the 5K course ranked Jamison third overall, roughly six seconds behind race winner Danna Ibarra Canales (19:27.9) of Saddleback College.

That performance helped Canyons slot sixth in the team standings, just 25 points from race winner and Western State Conference (WSC) rival Allan Hancock College. 

Jamison has finished no worse than fifth in the field when running at a community college event this season. On Sept. 20 she ran a fifth-place time of 19:21.8 to remain in the lead pack of a field that included 141 runners at the Golden West Central Park Classic in Huntington Beach.

Earlier in the month Jamison posted a personal record time of 18:15.8 to place her 21st in the field of 135 runners primarily representing four-year programs, at the Biola University Invitational. 

COC's women's cross country program continues to be included among the top programs in the region, having recently been ranked No. 4 in the region according to the 5CTCA regional poll released Sept. 30.

Jamison shares her 5CTCA runner of the week accolade with SoCal region men's representative Tommy White of Moorpark College. Northern California Region honorees were Roselyn Olivio of Hartnell College and Stephan Chapdelaine of Butte College on the men's side. 

Canyons will run at the WSC Championships on Oct. 25 at Oxnard College with an eye on qualifying for the 3C2A SoCal Championships back at Chaffey College on Nov. 8. 

The 3C2A State Championships will be held at Woodward Park in Fresno on Saturday, Nov. 23.
