SANTA BARBARA — No. 7 College of the Canyons posted a fourth consecutive shutout to defeat host Santa Barbara City College 1-0 under the lights at La Playa Stadium on Tuesday.
Canyons (6-0) has allowed just two scores on the season, outscoring opponents 16-6 over its first six outings.
COC goalkeeper Rebecca Ferguson (6-0) has been in net for every minute this season and recorded three saves on Tuesday to help the Cougars hold on down the stretch.
The game's lone goal came in the 67th minute from sophomore Bailey Williamson, her third of the season.
The scoring play was assisted by Leila Sadra, the current Jersey Mike's Women's Student-Athletes of the Week.
Williamson's goal upped her season total to a team-best 11 points (three goals, five assists). Sadra currently ranks second on the squad with 10 points (four goals, two assists).
The win over SBCC (5-4) came in the Cougars' final non-conference match.
Up next, Canyons will open its Western State Conference (WSC), South Division schedule with a road trip to Glendale College. First touch is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26.
